How to encourage municipalities to release real-time public transport data?

Hi all!

I am part of a civic tech group working on a public dashboard that visualizes real-time bus & train locations. :upside_down_face:One major challenge we’re facing is that many local municipalities either don’t release real-time GTFS-RT data / provide it only under restrictive licenses that block public reuse. :innocent:

We’ve reached out to a few transport authorities & while some are open to the idea; they often cite technical, legal / contractual limitations with their IT vendors. We are looking for examples, strategies, or success stories from other cities or regions where open transport data was successfully released / unlocked through advocacy or technical support. Checked Kategorien - OKF-Forum JIRA Training guide related to this and found it quite informative.

Are there any resources or playbooks focused on opening up mobility data, especially in smaller cities? :thinking:We’d appreciate suggestions on how to approach these conversations with public agencies in a constructive, evidence-backed way.

Thank you !! :slightly_smiling_face:
